Grape Question of the Month:
Q: Will temperatures below 32 degrees F hurt grape vines?
A: Yes, they can. Unopened grape buds can be damaged at 28 degrees F or lower. However, buds that have already opened can be damaged at temperatures of 31 degrees F or lower. The amount of injury or damage is dependent on the stage of growth and the duration of the cold temperature.

"Hoping to further Oklahoman's wine knowledge, Oklahoma State University started the Viticulture Education Program in 2000 for grape growers, wine makers and wine drinkers. It isn't a degreed course, but an informative support to a proliferating industry. If Oklahomans want to produce wine, then OSU, whose faculty has been studying grapes off and on for 100 years --wants to help, says Eric Stafne, assistant professor of fruit and nut crops extension, OSU-Stillwater." read the full article from Oklahoma Magazine from the April issue, 2009. |
